Young Werther

Treasure

Born to a family of Butchers and farmers, Mick Young (aka Young Werther) began life in the small Australian mining town of Stawell in shadows of the mystical Grampians mountains, home to thousands of sacred Aboriginal sites, fire loving plant life and rare animal species.

One day while working in his Father’s butcher shop and contemplating his future Aussie rules football career Mick was stirred by the sight of a slaughtered pig, hanging from a hook.
Maybe it was the artistic genes of his Grandmothers – poetess and painter-switching on and tuning in...maybe it was his Father’s passion for music, or maybe it was something in that pigs eyes...but Mick knew from that moment that the artistic life beckoned.

In early 2007 ‘Young Werther was born’. Marrying his pop sensibility, which was honed with The Restless to a new found subtlety and freedom, the music has gained a power and poise that will see him become a main player in the Australian and worldwide music scene.

Mick has shared stages with Australian music legends such as Katie Noonan (George), Kate Miller-Heidke, The Boat People, The Audreys, 78 Saab, Ben Birchall, Emily Ulman and Laura Jean to name a few.

2008 will see Young Werther touring Australia before heading to Germany and Iceland to play dates in June/July.

Young Werther - Treasure 09-Mar-2008
I can't remember being so moved by someone's music as much as I am by the songs of Young Werther - Certainly the standout for me.
