Alex Hallahan

The Turning Wheel

Alex Hallahan is an Australian artist who lives in cultural and artistic hub, Melbourne. He is receiving recognition as a songwriter of the times both nationally and internationally. Influenced by folk, blues, country, soul and rock, Alex’s music encompasses the tradition of storytelling with unique melodies and an achingly soulful voice.

Debut album ‘The Turning Wheel’ released on 20th September 2008 online (ITunes) and in Australian and New Zealand music retailers . Teaming up again with the brilliant and very relaxed Justin Skim (renowned Melbourne sound engineer) who Alex worked with on his EP ‘Picture Hook’, the pair have been tirelessly recording demo tracks throughout the last year to establish the distinctive sound for the album. Al Smith, who joined Alex last year as bass guitarist has taken on the role of co-producer/co-arranger and displays many of his musical talents on the album.

‘The Turning Wheel’ is an absolute feast for music lovers. Alex’s pen has been dipped into many shades of ink to bring this diverse playlist, this is not a mono genre album by any means.

Feature song ‘The Turning Wheel’ has already received recognition with Neil Young’s Living With War website as a ‘Song of the Times’ reaching a position within the top 50.

This feels like the beginning of something wonderful... 05-Oct-2008
This feels like the beginning of something wonderful... the start of a great friendship perhaps? Alex Hallahan has written an amazing debut album, it's hard to imagine these songs all coming from just one person. Emotionally, there's a lot of love, life, ups and downs in this album and I just can't stop listening to Good Conversation. Personally, there isn't a song that lacks in character or strength because they all fit together like pieces in a puzzle. This album feels like something old and something new.
