Ryan Sterling
Never Really There
Northcote singer/songwriter Ryan Sterling has stepped away from his raucous rock sound to deliver an introspective solo album, Never Really There.
Inspired by the country and folk influence of Townes Van Zandt, Guy Clarke, Neil Young and Nick Drake "Never Really There" represents a new direction for the musician.Sterling brings melody to the forefront, stripping back the songs to raw honesty.
"The songs are observational - about my relationships and friends" relationships, putting myself in their position"
"They are snapshots of peoples lives and emotions"
"During the songwriting process, I was able to step outside of myself. The songs are quite desolate and reflect a feeling of being lost, but they still can be uplifting"
Recorded at Melbourne's Sub Studios and featuring an impressive line up of guest artists, "Never Really There" showcases Sterlings versatility as a musician, with instrumentalists sitting alongside emotion charged tracks.
