The Distance
Grounded
There’s something to be said about the ‘company we keep’. On the long and winding road of a constantly travelling country rock band it’s always nice to be among good friends. That's exactly how The Distance have rolled from day one. The band has known each other most of their lives, and it is this chemistry and trust that makes The Distance one of the most invigorating and fresh acts on the Oz country rock scene today. Their second studio album, GROUNDED is the result of continued inspiration and the need to share these creative gems with Australia’s country music fans.
The Distance aim to put the listener into the heart of the matter, it is hoped that each songs contains enough soul to be understood and appreciated. Having something to say and the ability to say it is the premise of all good songwriters, the challenge is to be master craftsmen, sharing the faith, laying out the music for public scrutiny sees this 12 song collection Grounded offer all the right ingredients of greatness.
The album opener , first single and video clip “Country Life” immediately invites you into the album, the lyric contains the line, “They think they’ll miss the city, but they’ll learn to love the land”. This is the essence of The Distance, never having ventured to the big city to make their name, always believing their fans are in the heartland. The song features iconic Australian Crawl front man James Reyne joining lead singer Gavin Leadbetter on vocals. The album gathers momentum with “All the Dealing”, taking you to the edge of one mans despair, and his battle on drought affected land. The rural rocker “Commin on Fast” shows the band in full-fledged country rock mode, infectious harmonies, hard working guitars and a vitality that is born when the pressure is on. Drivers Wife, New Little Cowgirl the soulful You Make It, all carry The Distance unique rural flavour.
