The Kingswoods

Comforts Of Home

‘Comforts of Home’ is a home grown mix of country, folk and blues sung by Roger and Meredith Cleary which creates a melodic and emotive listen in the country folk tradition.

Previously the Cleary’s have shared the stage in various harder edged bands but have come together here as the Kingswoods to explore a more roots based music where the quality of the songs is the primary concern.

‘Comforts of Home’ was recorded almost entirely live with just acoustic guitar, a twangy lead guitar and double bass. The sparse arrangements help to evoke an intimate and heartfelt feel that has been compared to the Scud Mountain Boys, Townes Van Zandt and the Flatlanders.

Roger and Meredith’s vocal and songwriting styles (each contribute 7 songs to the album) although different, complement each other to create an end result that is somehow greater than the sum of it’s parts.

The Kingswoods have been performing regularly around Melbourne pubs (such as the Empress and the Old Bar) as well as featuring in local festivals for the past five years. In this time they have built up a loyal and ever expanding following who have been moved by their songwriting.

In recent times the Kingswoods have expanded their line up on stage to include a five-string banjo and at times, bass and drums. The Cleary’s are currently writing material for their second album, which will be recorded in late 2007.
